Solar Panels

Noosa Village Shopping Centre and owners Fort Street Real Estate committed to environmentally friendly retail solutions ensuring that the centre has been installed with a 250kW rooftop solar power system. This equates to 336 tonnes of CO2 removed from the atmosphere, or the equivalent of 122 cars being taken off the road each year. That’s enough to power almost 70 homes.

Fort Street Real Estate are so committed to sustainable practices that they are planning to roll out similar projects in conjunction with Energy Aware across other retail centres right around the country.

Energy Aware’s project manager Mack Thomas is proud of his company’s contribution to this fast growing and important industry. Mack provides a tailored approach to his clients, over 6,000 and growing, that helps guide each and every one to a more sustainable future.

“Our company was founded in 2009,” Mack says, “and is comprised of an innovative group of professionals who are very excited by the economic and environmental opportunities associated with the transition to clean technology.”

Mack has also assured us that the solar panels are extremely durable and have been installed by CEC accredited electricians.

Individual Retailers:
The Centre’s sustainability initiatives also take place at individual retailer level. Here are some of the examples of how our store owners are committed to the practice of sustainability.

Eco Bag Competition
Every year Noosa Village runs the Eco bag competition, whereby local children are asked to submit a design which may be chosen to be printed on reusable canvas bags.

The initiative is very popular and has trifold benefit in that it engages our local community, especially the younger members, leads to an environmentally beneficial outcome and creates engagement between the Centre and community.

The bags are always warmly received across the community and can be seen in use within the Centre.

Awesome Little Fruit Shop
Awesome Little Fruit shop is a proud stockist of Boomerang Bands. This initiative was started by locals and now has a worldwide presence. Boomerang Bags is a not-for-profit organisation tackling plastic bag pollution at its source. Volunteers collect and upcycle unwanted material into shopping bags, diverting thousands of kilograms of waste from landfill. Combining this desire to significantly reduce the use of single use plastic bags and the huge amount of fabric being assigned to landfill every year, Boomerang Bags were born!
